MICHAEL SYRAH

MICHAEL SYRAH is made at our boutique, family-run vineyard, at the far eastern end of Waiheke Island, Auckland, New Zealand.  Named after our patriach, the great wine-lover Michael Holden - who dreamed the vineyard into being.

Lovingly cared for by hand, our vines thrive on their north-facing slope, catching the sunlight reflected off the shimmering Hauraki Gulf below.

We use the bare minimum of sulphites in our wine to keep it pure and lovely to drink.

Once picked, our grapes are hand sorted and pressed at Te Whau Vineyard on Waiheke.  The wine is stored in French oak barrels for 20 months, fermenting in the natural wild yeast.  It is then bottled and cellared to future develop the flavour.  Finally, each bottle is labelled and sealed with wax by hand.

The whole process is guided by the masterful Winemaker Herb Freidli, following his sensitive, holistic approach, to bring out the best natural flavours in the wine.  Nothing is added or taken away, it is a pure expression of the 'terrior'.
